In 1969 Rolex launches the reference 1680. This is the first submariner with the date function. It is equipped with an acrylic glass called “fireplace glass.” For the first time on a Submariner, a cyclope lens is glued to the outside of the glass for easy reading of the date.
The model we propose here is an Mk2 version with white inscription. The L in “Rolex” is slightly off-center to the left, the top line of the F in “660Ft” stops under the right leg of the M in “Submariner”. Lastly, the C in “Certified” is centered under the H in “Chronometer”, and the 6 in “660” are open.
