Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air King
Automatic - Ref. 5500/1002 - 1960's/1970's

This watch dates back to the 1930’s, before WWII, when pilots of the Royal Air Force were already equipped with Rolex Oyster Bubbleback. As a matter of fact they were bigger and more reliable than the standard English models at the time. When Rolex heard this through the grapevine, they responded by creating the Air King, that has not changed much since its creation.
The iconic model is undoubtedly reference 5500, released in 1957. Notice that with the exception of the Explorer, the 5500 is most often equipped with the Rolex 1002 case back, used for 34mm cases.
