The Rolex Oyster is a legendary watch. In November 1927, it began its luxury “sports career” on the wrist of a young secretary, Mercedes Gleitze, who swam across the English Channel in 15 hours and 15 minutes. It was in 1945 that the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust is revealed publicly. One can easily recognise the watch’s design, especially thanks to its cyclops lens at 3 o’clock. Above all, the Datejust can be identified by its Jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel. The watch in question also has an interesting feature. Did you notice the two Greek letters that surround the “T SWISS T” on both sides at 6 o’clock? This important detail indicates that we are looking at a “Sigma Dial,” a layout that collectors find particularly interesting.
